Bas Lem

Bas specializes in civil law proceedings and has extensive experience in disputes involving construction and contracting law, corporate law and calculation of damages, both in regular court and in arbitration. Bas also represents both commercial and public parties in disputes that are at the interface of public and private law. When conducting proceedings, Bas quickly familiarizes himself with the subject matter in complex technical cases, so that he can translate the technical and legal aspects of a case. Bas also has many years of programming experience, which he can use for advanced data analysis, among other things.

In 2017, Bas won the annual Rotterdam pleading competition and in 2018, he won the annual national pleading competition.

Bas obtained his Dutch Law degree from the Radboud University in Nijmegen (2015).

Bas has registered the main (and sub) legal areas of Civil Procedure and Litigation in the legal areas register (rechtsgebiedenregister) of the Dutch Bar Association. Based on this registration, he is required to obtain ten training credits in each registered main area of law each calendar year in accordance with the standards of the Dutch Bar Association.

Some recent cases in which Bas was involved include:

  • Recovering a claim of EUR 25 million following arbitration against the receivers of Imtech;
  • Assisting a large Dutch municipality with claims in connection with a district heating supply and its eventual sale;
  • Successfully defending a builder of large infrastructure projects in a dispute with a subcontractor;
  • Conducting arbitration proceedings regarding various defects in a construction project, with a favorable outcome.
